Replacing a Motorbike with a Car - Insurance
Hi All,
Have looked around online but can't find an answer to my question.
I've recently got my full license and will be purchasing a car. I currently own a motorbike and renewed my insurance 2 months ago. I won't need both vehicles so will be selling the bike. Is it possible to transfer insurance from my bike to a car, paying the difference in premium? Or am I going to have to accept losing money I paid for my motorbike insurance?
Thanks.

Very unlikely that you can transfer, they are different products. What you can do is cancel the 'bike policy, and receive a pro-rata refund, less a massive admin fee, (which usually wipesthe refund out if you went with a cheap insurer). You will have to cancel the 'bike policy anyway when you sell the 'bike, as there are many urban legends about people leaving insurance running on a vehicle they sold, and being liable for claims. (I've not seen any documented cases though, with money and everything.)You might find a car insurer who will give an introductory discount based on your 'bike NCD (you can't transfer NCD from 'bike to car either...)I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

If the vendor's insurer is still the insurer-of-record on MID, then there is no get-out.0 -
But where are all the documented cases of people who have actually had to pay?I wouldn't like to be in that situation for sure, but considering the fuss, and most people knowing about the possibility, I can't find a single one who has actually had to pay.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

There are Ins co's that do take bike NCD and will use it against a car.facade said:You might find a car insurer who will give an introductory discount based on your 'bike NCD (you can't transfer NCD from 'bike to car either...)
I did it with 7 years bike ncd on a 2nd car.

Thanks for your responses, guess I'll be taking the hit on the remaining period of the bike insurance, may just keep the bike until insurance runs out as a quick way to get around town.0
