If you’re drilling a 20mm hole for those plasterboard fixings, you might as well just look through the hole and check there’s no pipes or cables in the way.

What ever fixings are used the main idea is that it is safe. What is safe ?.

Is the radiator 40kg before or after it's filled with water?
I've seen a large radiator fall off the wall and trap someones leg, guess what it was held on with, those fancy plasterboard fixings.... he attempted to pull himself up from kneeling infront of the rad, pulled on it a little and it crashed onto him and trapped him. turns out he'd been soaking the walls for a day to get the paper off, and the boards got a bit damp
It must be an odd house layout if you suspect the plumber and electrician have just ran loads of pipes and cables exactly where you want the radiator brackets? are there any sockets or lights near the radiator? it's unlikely the pipes will be right where the radiator brackets go, even plumbers aren't that dim.

this is a good point, however if you drilled them out to 20mm you then couldn't use corefix or dryline pro as the hole would be too big
  • Some pictures showing how the Bullfix Plasterboard fixing works.thanks for all the comments and help and I will remember all the good advice you have shared. I found our the rad would actually only be 28kg when filled , it's not massive.
I used the bullfix fittings and what is interesting is that I ordered a pack of 24 instead of 10. So having some left over Plasterboard I nailed on a couple if studs fitted the Plasterboard fixing using a 20mm hole saw and a picture hook. I was amazed , I could not pull it out by pulling down on it with all my weight. Only when I pulled outwards with some force the Plasterboard broke in to, the hammer went flying into my Mrs plant pot and smashed it 🤣
So I have used 6 of them to hang the rad, it's absolutely solid. I would definitely use Bullfix again for attaching to Plasterboard if I had too. These are really good.

Again thanks for all the good tips 😊

    Nice job, Bob.
P'board is surprisingly strong stuff. UNTIL the fixings move. If they start to move, you are in trouble.
I bet you didn't adhere the brackets to the wall?
I'm sure you'll be fine. The reason I recommend the 'adhering' is not so much for actual added strength, but just to prevent movement.
