Retailer cash request

In July last year I purchased a TV from a large electronic retailer....It was delivered with a smashed screen.....a second was delivered which was faulty. After a few weeks of phone calls (10hrs worth) I was sent out a 3rd TV. The Old one was taken away,so I contacted them looking for compensation for my time lost, phone calls etc....The conversation got a bit heated and it was ended.A few weeks later I received £300 odd into my account from this company..(I thought as compensation) . Some 7 months later I get an email saying it was paid to me in error as it was a refund for the TV (nowhere near what I paid) ,which I still have.I am to either refund them the money or arrange for them to collect the TV.Am I obliged to reply to them, and do they have any legal right to claim this money back?

You're not obliged to reply but yes, they have a legal right to claim the money back if it was an errror, and can do so up to six years after it was paid to you in error.

You really thought you were getting £300 for you phoning them and replacing a faulty product?  Yes, they can pursue you for the money back, you dont have to reply but be aware they can start legal proceedings for the amount owed.

I have had a few long phone calls myself.  While on hold, I just put the phone on speaker in its stand and get on with whatever I need to.  While I can understand peoples frustration, we are in strange times and have to expect that things may not go smoothly.

Deduct 20% for hassle send the rest back and suggest the courts might be their next stop, which will offer you the opportunity to explain to the judge what a bunch of !!!!!! they are if they don't like it..
