Hi All, I hope everyone is staying safe and getting ready to fly again, I hope.
we have been insured with Direct Line for 20 Years but I have been looking at their caveats which were introduced late last year and it looks like you are not covered if there is another lockdown, can anyone recommend a bomb proof policy for two 65 year olds who go away regularly, don’t mind paying for good cover but all these policy alterations confuse us nowadays
many thanks

I am really interested in this too. We have just realised no one will provide insurance if you travel to a country in amber list (because not advised by gov) so what is actually the point of the amber lisr? Our daughter is in Canada and we are desperate to go. If anyone can find out Martin can!!

The Department of transport have advised against red and amber travel.
FCO don't advise against some amber countries and it's usually FCO that counts for insurance.
In addition you CAN purchase insurance for countries advised against by the FCO.
Where did you get the information that no-one will provide insurance? it doesn't sound correct.0 -

many thanksHave a look at the Co-op Bank Everyday Rewards current account. It's a packaged account which includes worldwide travel insurance for a £15 monthly fee, which is a good deal - especially as it runs to age 80.You don't need to do the £800 minimum monthly pay in from an external source, or the monthly 4 Direct Debits if you are only wanting the insurance cover.Their "system" is a bit Catch 22 - take out the account then check the level of cover - I circumvented that procedure by calling the travel insurance company direct to confirm we would be covered. All good.

Where did you get the information that no-one will provide insurance? it doesn't sound correct.Cyprus is on the amber list and this https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/cyprus says<<The FCDO advises against all but essential travel to the whole of Cyprus based on the current assessment of COVID-19 risks.>>We insure with NFU Mutual who have said today<<If the Insured goes Cyprus against the FCO advice, there is no cover>>.

You need to insure with a company that will cover you for travel against FCO advice.
Depending on where you want to go it is possible.
Staysure have an additional option for EU and Battleface also provide cover. But you need to ensure the rest of the policy is suitable for you.

I use Staysure.

The vast majority of holidaymakers (me included) rarely look into the minute small print of travel insurance policies.......until there is an incident/accident etc.For example, in the relatively not too distant past the big tour companies like TUI and Thomas Cook (RIP) had to stop allowing their resort reps to act as local agents for scooter/moped hire outfits.Too may younger generation clients were being injured in accidents on such vehicles - having had several alcoholic drinks which rendered the policy null and void.0
