I must admit, people giving a wrong amount is a rare occurrence, but if they give the prize for one wrong answer, it would only be fair to do it for everyone. Then there would be no point in having to remember the amount.

Apart from having a conversation before they lost it's no different (although much rarer) than all the people who do not answer the "make me a winner" one with the correct phrase

I don't think for a second that heidimannifield89 suggested giving the prize to anyone who didn't know the answer, all they said was 'what an awful thing to happen', & it was, I feel very sorry for the poor lady, just put yourself in her position for a second.
Agreed, pretty sure all Heidi meant was awful for the woman to not to know the amount and so miss out on the money

Do you think they should give prizes to people who give the wrong answer? I bet you wouldn't think that if you found out you'd entered a competition but the "winner" had given the wrong answer? Or on one of those days when the Bauer radio competitions say that they will ring people until they get a winner and the first contestant gets the answer wrong but they give her the prize anyway.
Breathe...and you've totally got the wrong end of the stick me thinks. Think before you speak...or type.

Thanks for the advice on respiration and your helpful aphorism. This is a chat thread on a forum - a place for the exchange of ideas - so, as long as my post isn't against forum rules (e.g. abusive) then I'm perfectly entitled to express my opinions.

Im sure they could give people an incentive to answer the phone. Make Me A Winner used to give people £1000 just for answering the phone, this would obviously soften the blow a little on missing out on winning the amount for that day and not answering with the phrase.
I very much doubt that giving a small consolation prize would increase the number of paid entries while bigger prizes certainly do and that's how the money is made.

(I preferred the weekly competitions where they tried over several days if necessary to contact the winners and no amounts etc need to be said)

I agree with Comping Rich, a £1,000 commiseration would be nice as it is very hard with all the entries to be the lucky one that gets called for these big cash competitions, like make me a winner and cash register
