Citicard 1% cashback -- paid 2 months in arrears?

I have a Citi Platinum card. I could have sworn that in the past the cashback is paid with the statement, ie you spend £100 in May, get the statement 10th June, all payments for that month are totted up and divided by 100 = cashback "earned this month". Much as Egg does, for example.

I decided to start using this card for the 1% cashback on a regular basis around a month ago. Imagine my surprise when my statement came through today; spent £235, cashback earned £0.

Spoke to the Indian call centre, they tell me the cashback is paid a month in arrears, in other words that £235 will be paid next month.

I think this is BS myself. I have no problem with the money being credited in this way, but my suspicion is that something has gone wrong and I'm being fobbed off.

Does anyone else reading have this card, and can they confirm please when the cashback is credited under "cashback earned to date"? I realise I can't get my hands on this money until the anniversary, that's fine, but there's no point in spending on this card if they aren't going to honour the cashback.

I've received one statement so far and cashback is definitely calculated monthly and appears at the end of the statement. As I never received the cashback Ts & Cs I don't know when I'll actually receive that cashback though....

By the way, you should be able to go into on-line servicing and see your running total for cashback to the nearest pound.

Thanks. I called them again, and got someone who knew what she was talking about this time :)

They're going to look into it. I have to phone them back, which is irritating if they are at fault, but there's definitely something gone wrong with my account.

I dunno, Boots, Egg and now Citi have messed me about in the space of a week, grrr lol

Right, I've come to the conclusion that this organisation are a bunch of muppets.

They *said* they'd get this sorted. But of course they have not.

They're still saying that cashback is awarded in August, and won't give me any more help. I know it's awarded in August, but the point is that the total is not accumulating as it should. But can I tell them that? No -- their Indian helpdesk is worse than useless.

What's more, under "rewards" on their website the cashback section is listed as "Not Registered". If that doesn't say my account is screwed I don't know what does. They also claim that my last payment was £3200?!?!? Er, no. My account hasn't been above £500 in yonks.

I'm going to phone them -- again -- re the £3200 thing. Something is not right with this account and I want to know what it is.

    Barstewards!!!!!

The reason why I'm not getting cashback is that I apparently was put onto the cashback scheme "in error". Have you ever heard anything more ridiculous?!?!?

This card is history. I'm sick of them.
  • jjames - what did they say about the £3200 amount showing on your account?

The system seems to be multiplying the "last payment amount" and "minimum payment required" by 100 on the website. So the £3200 isn't mine to spend unfortunately hehe.

I don't know what has happened to this company. Over the last year or so they've become a bunch of incompetents. I just don't want to be bothered with them any more, even the 12% interest rate on the card isn't that wonderful.

I got my wife a cashback card - you can still google for the link - she wasnt offerred cashback to begin with but she hassled them big time got it - it is now shown on her statements. I have and electronic copy of the T&c's somewhere.. Received an apology letter to from someone who woudlnt identify themselves. Even didnt pay for the first month and got the nonpayment charge refunded. Having problems acessing their online service at the moment - https://www.citicards.co.uk - i have a feeling it is to do with my security settings, but i am not prepared to compromise onlines security to make there website work. I use many other online services and they work...

There must be a name for this where you have have what you beleive to be a good company - they sell hard then make all operations as cheap as possible. This way they get more margin - but in the longer term the customer will be alienated and not have anything to do with the company. I think in 10 years time people will be so miffed at !!!!!! service they wont have anything to do with these companies. And as the staff in out sourced locations get better they will jump for more money - i dont have accurate figures by staff turnover in some call centres in 40% plus - and from their point of view there only doing it for the money and they have to deal with all sorts of !!!!!! - their culture is very different from ours !

India is lucky because of its english skills - I think that maybe Africa will be next as they have good English skills and are cheaper than India. I think it will take the Chinese a long time as they dont have the English skills, but when it comes to business theres alot to be learned from them...
