New electric cooker?

My old EW91 is shorting out and the ovens will not work.
I did have the repair guy out last year and he said it wasn't a viable repair. I can now hear the shorting out behind the buttons.
So I am hoping to get a replacement, probably new. I am bidding on one on ebay.
Not much of a cook myself. What features are worth paying for?
Single or double oven, does that save electricity? Do all ovens have fans?
I like the idea of a liftable glass cover, but they tend to be on gas cookers.
New prices start at £220

Single oven with a fan will be the same temperature throughout the whole cavity, so you can only cook at one temp - though you can usually turn the fan off. With fans you reduce the temp or the cooking time compared to non-fan ovens.
Double ovens give you a smaller top one which can be economical if only cooking for 1/2 people, but usually that oven won't have a fan.
Must have is a timer and easy to clean lining and I hate the solid plate hobs that take forever to heat up.

    This type of thing...
Had one when I refitted my kitchen. Horrible, nasty thing... Replaced it with an induction hob the minute I found one at a good price (half price at B&Q). Even better than the spirally electric rings that were on a vintage cooker in the kitchen. If I were offered a ceramic hob, I would stick with an induction.
Oven wise, an electric fan does everything I need. Has a grill function, timer and can be used with or without the fan. The only thing I would have liked is an extra wire shelf.
Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

My present cooker has a flat top with the elements underneath. I assumed those types would be slower and less efficient.

That sounds like a ceramic hob - it will heat up much faster than a solid plate one. Induction is even faster but more expensive.
