Cancelled event retaining part

We booked an event which had a ticket price and advised this included a book (RRP £14.99). We have now been advised that the event is cancelled and that they will deduct the price of the book from the refund for each ticket. We do not want the books but have not been given the option to return..

What's the nature of the book?  Is it still wrapped/pristine or have you, for example, written in it?
  • The book was by an author who was appearing alongside a singer. The book is still in original packaging. They sent one for each ticket. As I was attending with my husband - we now have 2

In which case, you are entitled to a refund for the book as well, since you bought both as a package.
