Well to be fair they was putting pressure in me 6 weeks after I accepted the offer he phone me asking if I would move in with family. But as I know how easy it would be to resell my home I didn't feel pressured. Renting would only be to look more attractive to sellers and if I couldn't find a 6 months contract I wouldn't consider.

    Where are your buyers living.
How obvious is it prices have gone up
How easy for them to find an alternative

If prices have gone up there comes a point where you may have to remarket to bridge the bigger gap to your onward options.
  • Prices may well come down again too - just something to consider.
There seems to be a 'magic porridge pot' assumption amongst vendors at the moment. Also consider the possibility that prices can go both ways, whatever you choose to do.

Please check the rental situation in your area before committing to this. I agreed to break the chain and move into rental and despite there being lots of rentals on Rightmove, there were so many applicants per house we couldn’t secure one. As a result we’ve been living with family for 4 months while we wait for our house purchase to go through. We’ve had to settle on a house purchase that wasn’t really what we wanted as we can’t get a rental, there’s a lack of houses for sale/they go quickly and living with family has been tough.
Our plan to rent for 6-12 months while we looked for our forever home has truly gone out the window and  our dream of finding a lovely 3/4 bed detached is on hold for the moment and we’re buying a 3 bed semi, which while lovely isn’t what we wanted but it’s the best we could get in the current market.
If I could go back, I’d have held off until I found an onward purchase even if it meant losing my buyer. At the time I read threads on here where people said sellers were selfish and shouldn’t expect their buyers to wait and should go into rentals but following that advice, while being very helpful to my buyer meant I’ve been in an awful situation the last few months.

This is the problem I think we are having as the houses we are looking at have gone up 15-20 k in the last year and ours hasn't gone up as we accepted the offer last July. They know the situation and I think they know they won't get a house like mine for that price now.
