The best all-rounder I think is AJ Bell - fairly cheap, reasonable website, good support.
Does A J Bell own and run it's own platform or is it shared with a 3rd party?

OP would do well to tell us the size of portfolio, trading frequency and type of assets, funds, shares etc
2 ISA's £500k and 1 SIPP £500k.  No changes in the last few years.  Mainly Trackers with a few key funds.  Too much to have in one institution IMHO.

AJ Bell is a listed company on the London Stock Exchange.

If you wanted tro split across platforms you could have one of the ISAs on a separate platform to the other ISA and SIPP.  There is no advantage in having them all on one platform since you cant (easily) move money or investments between ISAs or between ISAs and SIPPs.   By splitting you improve your security as you are covered if one platform has IT problems.

I see no point in using more than 2 platforms but I guess there is great disadvantage either.

That's a good bonus point to me.  Would you agree?

So this discussion has helped me.  Here's my thinking:
HL - Own platform - FTSE 100 Company
AJ Bell Own platform - FTSE 250 Company
Are there any other companies in the middle of the above that I should be interested in (not companies owned by other companies) (i.e Best Invest)?

The difference doesnt make sense to me.  Groups are often structured as a heirarchy of separate companies purely for financial or tax reasons to keep their accounts distinct.  Whether this is the case of BestInvest, or come to that HL and A J Bell I have no idea.  Google tells me that BestInvest is a brand of Tilney Smith & Williamson.
