Would you class a Dishwasher rack as a consumable part??

If the racks are designated as "Consumables" on this 2 yr old machine, then Swan should be offering spares - ask, and if they don't shout it from the roof tops of every social media site you can

Post the model number & I am sure somebody will find new racks for you.
A 2 minute Google search brought this up

I wouldn't agree that the racks are "consumables". To me that suggets something that is intended to be used up or worn out through normal use. Car tyres, brake discs and pads, laser printer imaging units, cambelts, that kind of thing.

The fact that spares are on sale and that the parts are user-replaceable doesn't mean they're consumables, otherwise (to return to the car analogy) entire wheels would be a consumable. They are not.

Having said that, if Swan had said that the issues were not covered by the warranty because the damage was "normal wear and tear" then I would have more sympathy with them. I honestly don't think I'd have thought to complain about those few rust spots, even though my own cheap Indesit dishwasher looks in better condition after five years' use.

I suggest that you email the commercial director Rob Wileman.
    mailto:rob@swan-brand.co.uk

It would be helpful if you post back here to let others know how you get on. It does seem to me that you have been unfairly treated.

You may also want to add some key words to your posts, to help Google find this thread.  Such as

    Swan Products customer complains.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

The same logic would state that the entire car would be a consumable and nobody is arguing that.

The dictionary definition of a consumable is "a commodity that is intended to be used up relatively quickly."  A rack in a dishwasher performs a function in that dishwasher but it is not "used up."  Detergent in the dishwasher, on the other hand, is "used up."

For that rust to appear in 2 years is manufacturing defect,
might be very common fault swan.

More shocked by £530 for a Swan dishwasher

they only seem to have one on their site OOS but around that price.

Definitely a case of style over substance.

Consumables are available in several shops like salt, rinse aid etc. Is this rack available in most 'Wilko-style' shops? Of course they're not!
I think we all know there not but Swan just won't have it, I even put in an official complaint but it was dealt with by the same person I was emailing so I got no where, the whole thing is very frustrating.
They say it doesn't stop it working but it does give you rust spots on your cutlery which isn't ideal.

Regarding rust spots on cutlery, I have a second hand Bosch dishwasher with a much rustier basket than yours, and get very few rust spots. The few I do get are always on knives. I've come to a conclusion that it's table salt that is causing the rust spots, not the rust on the basket, as being civilised people, we don't lick our knives. All the spoons and forks would probably have any salt in the food removed by lips when eating.

I would say it's more down to the poor quality of stainless steel on your cutlery along with the knives having a greater surface area.

I'd agree with you if we had poor quality cutlery (we don't), and it occured with every wash, but it's a very rare occurance, which leads me to think it's the occasional salt left behind.
