Living the Dream Ludlow style

  • Oh my. I know you feel that condolences aren't necessary and I'm not really sure what to say.  However, it doesn't feel right to read and run and I don't want to say nothing for fear of saying the wrong thing. So... I am sorry to hear your news.  It's good that your dad had a long and happy life and felt ready to leave.  But one of the hardest things to say is goodbye for the last time and it's a huge thing to lose a parent so remember to look after yourself.  I hope the estate issues get resolved quickly.

  • Morning all,
too much has occurred since I last posted to try and recap, sorry.
    Ludlow is still awesome.
We've bought an old Motorhome and love it.
Dad's estate is slowing getting sorted.
Mortgage down to £67k with sufficient funds to clear it now, but at 1.75% we may as well leave it to run until June 26 then clear. However, if I 'came into' £67k now I'd probably clear it anyway. I don't really want to spend the comfort savings I have now.
Once mortgage cleared, I'll re-evaluate my work situation. We'd be £700 a month better off, and we're pretty frugal.
I'd consider dropping a day, or even 2, at work and use the Moho more.
So there's a lot still going on and it's not all plain sailing, far from it, but on the MFW front we're absolutely on plan, ahead even. And that's the main thing.

Just had a good catch up, it is lovely that you are able to say that your dad had a wonderful life, as hard as it can be to say goodbye. Shocking about the cannabis houses! Have you got that sorted? Seems extortionate to have to pay £2600 each when the issue wasn't your fault. Great news on the camper, that is definitely something we think about in the future. Loving the daily interest, I used to work this out, I think ours is around £15-16 a day at the moment, soul destroying, 3p down a day does make a big difference overall!

I moved so Ludlow is no longer my nearest town! I still love it though and was there on Wednesday (I think) morning to buy an obscure metal ceiling light insert from the Period House Shop. Sad to see the end of Rickards. I still miss the Olive Branch.

Also did the charity shop and had a ginger cookie and pot of tea in Bill's Cafe.

Good news on the camper van. My son bought a converted Transit to go around Europe in 2022 but had to sell it to get the deposit to rent his first house. He and his girlfriend are thinking of buying another van and going to Europe again but further north. I hope you have interesting travels.

  • Thanks for the comments. Re Cannabis houses - one was too far gone for our pockets so we sold it as was...
The other, my Nanna's house, my daughter is in it now  She moved in while we were still doing up and has made it her own...
The motorhome is excellent. We've only had it since March/April and have managed 14 nights away... not much but we're both still working so the longer tours are a way off yet. It feels like ours and we're getting slicker at setting up etc. We've a 5 nighter in Anglesey on the cards in the not too distant future which we're looking forward to.
As for the garden, it's been a poor year, next to nothing in, though we had a decent crop of broadbeans and the crop of strawberries was superb considering it's all from two plants we bought in Tesco a couple of years ago. And it looks like a bumper crop of blackberries and raspberries this year too, and their early.
I always struggle with watering enough, I have a couple of 220L water butts but it never seems to go far. Well yesterday I bit the bullet and forked out a whopping £44 on a 50m hose. OMG what a game changer that is !! I can give the flowers and veg a good soaking if they're looking parched.
Also bought a cordless Ryobi hedge trimmer and a strimmer ... both are excellent and make light work of tidying the hedge and edges... no excuse for a messy garden now!
