  • Cat brought in another fledgling today :( I think the nest is empty now and there hopefully won't be any more.
Otherwise not much occurring, potatoes are showing though :)
The Battle of the Bindweed will need to be ramped up after yesterday's rain, but the guttering seems to work well :)

  • An overcast 'morning folks' from Ludlow.
What have we been up to since the last update.... nothing significant really... mostly been heavily engaged in the Battle of the Bindweed on the Eastern Front ...that'll be the top of the garden .... I'm going for the "clear earth" method there... digging and de foresting. It's slow hard work but results look promising. It's quite satisfying teasing the white bootlace roots from the soil. It's also creating a cleared fruit bush plot, and we were given some more raspberry canes yesterday so they're 'in'.
Got 4 courgettes up now and the toms and chilli in conservatory are doing REALLY well.
I'm slowly getting the top workshop in order too so now stuff is migrating from the conservatory up the garden.
Oh, and we're hoping to pay £12,800 off the mortgage today :)

  • Great news , we've managed to pay the full years worth (10%) of overpayments today, £12,800 down. We're now putting £500 a month away into Premium Bonds so 1st of June next year (our Mortgage annual reset date) we can again pay the full 10% overpayment. I believe whilst today's OP has gone off the Term, the monthly payment will drop too, it has to presumably else we'll be OPing every month over and above the allowed 10% ... so this may give us a little more to put away each month. :)
Will update the figures once they show up ...will take a few days I'm sure.

    .
I think the first time I made an OP, I did it by phone and they said "shall we lower your monthly payments?" and I said "no thanks!"  And my payment has stayed the same ever since.  As you say, this means I am actually overpaying more than the allowed 10% each year.  They hinted a year or two ago that they were going to review it so it might go down, but as yet it hasn't.  Which is better for me because it is reducing the capital and hence the interest at a higher rate than it would be earning interest if I "put away a little more".
On a hunch, I have not quite made the 10% this year, I've left 95p of allowance in case paying the full amount triggers the review!
  • Still not showing as off ...
This morning I cycled the 1/2mile into Ludlow town centre on the search for fresh Croissants .... didn't find any. Found a lovely bakers, Waltons, and bought a fab small granary loaf though.
Spent an hour or so cutting wood into 10-12" lengths for the log pile, very satisfying. Be easier with a chainsaw though.
I have a lot more wood to chop up so this may be a near future purchase.

  • Morning from Ludlow ! Great weekend, lovely walk up Caer Caradoc near the Long Mynd, fabulous views over our green and pleasant land ! Then 20 Welsh border miles on the bike yesterday with some excellent trails found in Mortimer Forest, it's such a great area for mountain biking.
Only got 6 runner beans up and no more seeds so more seeds required.
We've 5 courgette plants now so we're going to be swamped with them.
    Potatoes are doing very well.
Raspberries looking very sorry for themselves but I guess being transplanted in a hot spell isn't the best.
Battle of the Bindweed continues. We're well on top of it in the front garden but it's a constant battle in the back.
Bought a saw horse to help with holding the logs I'm sawing. Too hot over the weekend for that malarky though.
Painted the upstairs sash window yesterday while the scaffold is STILL there... can do the downstairs easily once the scaffold has gone.
Overpayment still not showing off the mortgage....
Doctors for a checkup this morning, first time to this new practice, and first time seeing  a doctor in about 5 years !
    Gotta keep busy!

Where’s Waltons? I tend to go to the bakers on the market square, near the book shop with the curved glass.

(I’m old enough to remember when the market was in a Victorian market hall!)
