O/S Daily Friday 14 May 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Gers - thinking of you and your mum x
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now light but very overcast and cloudy - looks like rain any moment - which is forecast. Air is cool too.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here.
Dinner last night was fish, I had a fish bake with a leek and cheese sauce, was ok but expensive and not very big for price. Menfolk had fish in tempura batter which they said is very nice and was on offer in the SM - would't buy any of these fish dishes if they weren't on offer. I'll be heading to the SM first thing to get shopping done, then I need to get going with the "to do" list - there's quite a bit on there. It's going to take a week or 2 for me to settle to the different working pattern and move things around so it works better for us. Will organise tonight's dinner whilst I'm at the SM too.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all. no ide what happened this morning, it's way to early for me to be up. Ah well....sun is not shining, rain is making a real pigs ear of raining, it's not doing it properly, it's just chucking some down every now and again. I have switched the heating off in May but this morning, I had to put it on, it is so cold. Went to the GC yesterday, no lovage, asked on a gardening group, yay, someone has seeds or plants. I did also manage to buy some gloves, one plant that was in the I'm-Going-To-Die section, massively reduced, what my sister calls the ugliest bee thing ever, which is a clip on solar light, a plastic potting tray type thing. So not completely over the top. Oh,and a geum for the front garden, which has nothing but green in it until the roses bloom [ the very small roses...]Anyway, on to today, which is a bit fat, washing day, nothing. There's one load to do but none of it is urgent. So I'll cook some aubergine in the oven and make a cake. And there is hopefully someone coming to look at the monstrous tree tomorrow...Hope your mum had a good night Gers. You're welcome Rosy. I just keep thinking how did I ge to be this ::cough:: old and not now how to do this? It's like the most basic bread in any culture, a wet ingredient, a dry ingredient, chuck them both together...I hope you all have the kind of day you'd like to have...stay safe...BTW, I did try to delete the duplicate daily I posted but it wasn't having it despite you being able to delete a post, you can't a thread...But we both posted at exactly the same time, freaky or what??!!

Morning all
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need especially Gers and her mum.
I collected my new aids yesterday and they have Bluetooth and work brilliantly I can hear really clearly on the phone. I even had a conversation with a boater as i I was walking home with my shopping. I usually just smile and wave as it's too exhausting to try and work out what people are saying
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning folks and thanks NMLC for kicking off. We seem to be missing most of the rain that's doing the rounds just now. We are just getting the occasional quick shower. Today is forecast to be a covering of light cloud all day.
It's the usual Friday Tidy here, lots of cat hairs and clumps to vacuum up. Then the excitement of a grocery delivery after lunch. It's mostly boring household stuff with a few frozen bits and pieces as well. An e-mail earlier informed me no bagels or granary bread would be delivered! They will have to be included on my little list tomorrow of fresh stuff I like to select myself. Bit of a pain.
Yesterday's vet appointment was the usual expensive affair. Sparkle's poorly eye is not connected to the allergy. it's a separate problem. Poor puss has conjunctivitis, which vet says will probably re-occur as it's a common complaint among rescue cats. It's a virus, similar to cold sores, which can be triggered any time. She is turning into a very expensive cat needing all these regular appointments. He wants to see her in a month unless she has any problems before then.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Thoughts are with GERS, MARIE, POPPY, NELS. Hoping too that DP!'s DD is on the mend. Take care one and all x

Morning folks.Spooky Friday Taff. Thanks to both for starting us off.My hygienist appointment was fine, fifteen minutes and a lighter purse. DM's friend came to be with her. I managed to take some more stuff to the CS bins and collect an order from Marks too.DM is mostly asleep with some awake periods and eating even less than before.Today I have my implant surgery, first little post into the jaw on the right side. It'll be 90 minutes in the chair. My lovely surgeon plays music through his iPhone in his tunic pocket. Last time I chose Led Zeppelin 🤣 today I'm going to ask for the more gentle and calming music of Adrian Moffat.TA - did Sparkle behave yesterday?
Nelski - miss your posts. I hope your difficulties are easing even a bit.Taff - geums are so lovely, I have bright red ones (Mrs something) in my back garden. My thoughts to all our poorlies. Happy Friday to all.12 -
Good Morning All
Friday again, love a Friday! Overcast this morning but the cloud is fairly high so the bedding is out and can take it's chances. Lovely walk along the river this morning, saw some deer and rabbits.
Glad your new aids work HH, must be very difficult now everyone wears a face covering.
Hope you've had a quiet night Gers and all's well.
Poor Sparkle and poor you TA.
I may try your flatbread recipe taff, sounds easy enough even for me!
Hoping to get the grass cut later if it stays dry, it's looking a bit untidy. Also got the housework to do, I'm looking after the little one tomorrow while DD has a haircut so will hide all the interesting things.
Take care. XX12 -
Good morning, thanks for starting NMLC.No sun here, grey skies, looks like rain, though yesterday turned out sunny most of the day.TA, hope you've survived Sparkle's visit to the vets - much as I love cats, I'm so pleased that we don't have get the family rallied to get whichever cat it was into the travelling box. Our big tom cat was the worst - he was sometimes mistaken for a small dog from a distance, he was enormous.Taff what are you doing with this aubergine? The cake is not going to have aubergine in it is it? It's just that you said you're going to cook an aubergine in the oven and make a cake !! Sorry, I'm being facetious!!Yesterday was ok, we went over to the caravan and took it out for a drive, it hasn't moved since last September, it was ok though.Nowt exciting happening today just the usual stuff.Hope you and Mum have had a quiet night Gers, and that your dental appt goes ok. Also thinking of DP1's dd, Nelski, Marie and anyone else who is not well. Glad Steve is getting better Snoozer,Hope everyone has a good day, take care folks.13

Good luck today Gers...one of my friends has the loveliest orange one, mine is also a red one..Scarlet, no, but that did make me laugh! No, the oven is on for the aubergines for a dip so I might as well make a banana cake a the same time, I found some I'd frozen when I did the freezer inventory, so they can be used up. Oh does love a banana cake...This frees up the oven for the custard cake tomorrow. camelot, obviosuly it's my mission now to get everyone making them
TA, poor love....

Morning all Happy Friday weather looks bleugh no rain as yet I need to go shopping as we are having a family BBQ on Sunday yes I know the weather forecast luckily we have a large gazebo tent thing . Yesterday had my nails done and took all the paperwork i had to the estate agents I will be calling them today to say if it isn't sorted by the 3rd June then we will be putting the house back up for sale or renting it out I think DH and I are struggling because nowhere is home right now as all our things are divided between the houses also we are paying out for 2 properties and all the associated bills.

Hi everyone,
Second V day for me, so a trip to Stevenage for that, hopefully the side effects will be less than last time.
Taff, I love Geums too, I have an orange and a yellow. I try to use long flowering plants because the garden is so small so geums are great, as are another favourite of mine, hardy geraniums. They are hardy too - we have one which grows at the base of the low wall to our lawn and forms a clump of pink every year, while Esben was here he was using it as a ramp to get up and down from the lawn (it had died back completely) but it seems none the worse for it now. We need to try and plant the sweet pea plants out today or tomorrow if we can, they are beginning to look a bit unruly. We are going to Hereford in the camper van on Monday so I want them in before we go.
Steve spoke to the hospital yesterday, all his blood tests were normal and his bone marrow biopsy came back clear, so the lymphoma hadn't come back and caused his recent problems which is good news. He can go ahead with his latest treatment on Saturday. After that there is only one more and he's finished and although they will never say he's cured we're hoping for a very long remission.13 -
Snoozer what wonderful news I am so pleased for you and SteveSlava Ukraini12
