Hi all,
I booked a self catering cottage in France through Interhomes in 2019 for Sept 2020. Due to the covid situation, I rescheduled it to Sept 2021. Rather than just reschedule it, I think the company process was to convert it to a voucher refund and then used this to rebook it - I didn’t really have a problem with this at the time so didn’t question it.

However, my circumstances have changed and I no longer want to go. Nothing major, just I now have a toddler rather than a baby and can’t really be bothered with trying to travel hours with a toddler plus we’re now mid-house reno so could really do with the cash / time off work to decorate rather than go on holiday. Anyway, I’ve contacted the company to ask if I can have a refund and they say they cannot give cash back after a voucher has been issued.
Is there anything I can do about this given I never asked for a voucher? I’m guessing my insurance wouldn’t do anything as I don’t really have a reason not to go unless covid restrictions remain for France.
Thanks all! Hel

It's unusual for any company to buy back a voucher with cash but even if your booking had been carried forward without the voucher step, you'd be unlikely to have any right to your money back for what boils down to a change of mind anyway.0

Thanks for replying, I thought that might be the case unfortunately. Just annoying as I’ve paid for it all rather than just the 10% I would have paid by this stage if it was a fresh booking. Live and learn!0

There's always the possibility that it could be cancelled, depending on what state France is in by then, or you might be able to resell it if permitted?0

The cottage owner has probably spent the money by now. The voucher is in essence a goodwill gesture.0
