Credit check after offer

So I am freaking out!
We got a mortgage offer a few weeks ago and everything was going smoothly.  I checked my Experian and an account I had in 2018 had been added to my file saying I was 6 months plus late in payments.  Didn’t even know I had a payment plan set up.  This was for about £1k.  I paid it all straightaway.
I am now panicking that this is going to affect our offer.  What are the chances of a credit check being run again before completion.  We should complete end of month and I was credit checked end of March.

thanks for any advice given.

I'm no expert but was in a similar position a week or two back with late payments I forgot to declare. I had some very helpful advice from some brilliant for Forumites.
So, as far as I've been informed, this adverse credit should have been picked up when they hard searched you at full application. Any adverse/late payments would more than likely already have been on the radar and you will have still passed credit check.

    Was there a default recorded?
Like I said, I am no expert but this is the advice I was given by some experts. I'm sure some will weigh in soon

No there was no default registered.  I am just concerned they will do another credit check as the late payment went after they did the hard search before the offer.

Wow that's really strange. A just appeared from 3 years ago? Definitely wasn't there before? Have you checked any other credit reference agency to see if it appears there?
It all depends on your lender. Not all use Experian. For example I think Halifax use transunion. It may be worth checking your credit report through credit karma, they use data from transunion.

Yes deffo wasn’t there before.  I know it’s so weird! It’s almost like they knew! Fingers crossed it won’t cause any issue because we paid it off straightaway fully

I can't say for every lender but we applied for our mortgage in January and only completed it yesterday. Halifax only completed credit checks when we applied for the mortgage. There were no further checks before completion.

It does seem to differ with Halifax. Some people have only had checks at application, and some have had checks throughout. We currently have an offer from Halifax and they have so far only ran a hard search on application then once more when we changed address on our application. I don't think there is a hard and fast rule. OP I would recommend checking other credit reference agencies to see if their records match up with Experian. You may get a bit more insight

I have checked my Equifax which is the agency they use and weirdly it is not showing on there.  I hope they won’t refuse my mortgage now

Just out of interest, who's the lender / service provider who took three years to appear on your credit file?

They use Transunion and Experian as well. I got checked on those two when I applied for my mortgage, but not Equifax.
