Credit due from Simplicity Energy - incorrect statements, how do I request these are corrected?

To cut a long story short, I was with Simplicity Energy when they entered administration earlier this year and I have noticed that their final statement is incorrectly showing that I owe them £550 approx, whereas in actual fact I was in credit and had circa £750 owed to me!

Simplicity was in the process of tidying up my accounts (due to their error I had separate accounts for gas and electricity previously) when they entered administration. I have now been switched to British Gas Evolve who are apparently still waiting for details of credit amounts from Simplicity. I have also had a letter from Credit Style Ltd asking me to pay in full the £550 I apparently owed to Simplicity at the time of their demise.

I have lodged an official dispute with Credit Style to have the record set straight as I don't want to have this as an outstanding bad debt against my name.

However, I would like to try and get the Simplicity Energy records set straight too, so that the £750 credit is transferred to British Gas Evolve and paid to me. I don't hold out much hope but just wondered if there's any expert advice out there to help me? I have contacted British Gas Evolve as well as my local Citizens Advice Bureau

If you have your latest bill from Simplicity showing a credit balance based on actual readings then take that to Citizens Advice and let them help you sort it out. You don't want to complicate matters by going up any number of blind alleys from suggestions given on here.

  • I have exactly the same issue as you. Can’t get in contact with Credit Style despite leaving them messages/emailing. Have also emailed FRP advisory, SE’s Administrators. My final bill from March showed that I was in credit with SE but I got a letter from Credit Style stating I owe money. I logged in to my SE account today and a bill has suddenly appeared dated 17th May showing that I’m in debit by the amount Credit Style are asking for. So no bills since March then this one suddenly appears, as well as some cancellation bills. Whether this is a result of me emailing I don’t know but it seems to be very suspicious. I won’t be making any payments until I have had a response to my emails. The Credit Style website doesn’t even look secure. Not quite sure where to go from here. I assume I will receive another letter at some point.

If your final bill in March had you in credit, how have they justified the additional charges?

Perhaps <this site> might help. Good luck.

  • That’s what I don’t get. And how did they suddenly produce a bill dated the 17th May? It seems this latest bill indicates that I didn’t pay the direct debit that was due before they went into administration. I have emailed screenshots over and copies of the relevant bills. Just worried I’ll start getting chased by Credit Style and ultimately it might affect my credit score. But I refuse to pay for something that I haven’t got an explanation for, especially when I am co-operating.

Is it only that single DD which has led to the previous credit balance becoming a debit balance? If that's the case then confirm from your bank statement that it was paid and when. You can do no more than that for now. If you hear any more then advise them that the bill is disputed.
Was the link posted earlier of any help?

  • It seemed to take me to a Company that helps get debts written off. The whole thing just doesn’t add up. And I can’t seem to speak to anyone or get a response to emails. I particularly don’t understand how they suddenly produced a bill a couple of days ago. I’ll just sit tight and wait. Thank you.
