I am amazed this has not been taken up by Martin on the main site and a campaign launched to stop this. Ebay want direct access to your bank account details and they want to make you wait for your payment (which may be after you have sent the item if you want to maintain your good customer service). This also means you can't keep Ebay sales in a separate Paypal account and you only have Ebay protection, not Paypal's as well. Great for Ebay because they will make millions by holding YOUR money in their account for up to a week before they pay you, making stacks of interest. The current system is great for most users but Ebay don't care about you.
COME ON MARTIN - get on to this !!
In the meantime I suggest you look for other ways of selling your stuff like Facebook and other sites.
I would echo everything said above. I would also add that I wonder what extra protection you thought you had from PayPal as a seller?

I remember the old days when PayPal was introduced , it was all doom and gloom,’ the sky is falling in’ , ‘ I think we should boycott ebay until they drop PayPal ‘ ‘how can we trust ebay with our money..’ it’s just the same now, yes we are all resistant to change to some extent but wanting it all stopped because you don’t understand it is getting a bit over the top. It will happen, ebay US which is a huge entity is virtually all managed payments now and ebay UK isn’t far behind.

It’s not ideal, but then neither was PayPal, and whilst I was happy to use PayPal as a seller and still do for marketplace and private selling sites I certainly would never ever leave any sort of balance in there. My PayPal balance was pulled as soon as it hit a certain amount and I never allowed it to build up too far.
