Partnership card application rejected

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone on these forums could help.
Recently got rejected for the John Lewis Partnership credit card and I can't work out why. After ringing them I was simply told they don't have access to the reasons behind a rejection.
They use Experian as their CRA, and I've checked my score with them which is 975/999.
Is this still too low?
Any ideas much appreciated.
Cheers

The score is neither too high nor too low. It's not used in lending decisions.

Check the data on your Experian files and while you're at it, the others as well.  See if there are any obvious issues. If not, it may be affordability or simply not meeting their criteria.

Have you recently checked your credit files from all 3 CRAs? Ignore your score and focus on the underlying data - lenders don't see or use your score in any lending descisions. They focus on the data and using their own algorithm to determine who to lend to. Have you any missed payments, defaults, CCJs, etc? The CS team won't know - and even if they did, they wouldn't be allowed to tell you as it is a commercial decision to reject your application.

If there's nothing obvious on your credit files then you probably just don't meet their acceptance criteria. They have no obligation to take you on as a customer, so I'd just jog along to the next provider that takes your fancy.
