Have you succeeded to buy a property with Connells or alike without using their mortgage services?

  • I recently had my property valued including by Connells as a seller, and honestly I can completely understand this. I was constantly bombarded afterwards despite saying I would be having multiple agents in to value and then I would be thinking about it. I eventually just blocked their number and email address. They weren't even offering a good deal.

Just have to keep pushing and say no, this is my offer, I do not need your services. And if in doubt yes do tell the vendor directly - I'm just glad I didn't sign up to them.

When I had my house on the market before Christmas I had weekly letters from this group trying to get me to switch to them. Then after the sale fell through I got a letter saying I see your sale fell through-move to us. The house only went back on the market for a day before selling again!! Even after it was sale agreed, I continued to get weekly letters from them for about 2 months.
My parents put their house on the market with this group a couple of years ago, all because they found a bungalow they liked listed with this agent and they said the house was theirs if they listed their own house for sale with them. So they did and in the meantime they sold the house to someone proceedable without telling my parents (my poor parents are older and a bit naïve to the process) and they thought the sale agreed sign was because they were buying it but later found out it was sold to someone else. I had warned them not to use this EA but they offered them the world. The quickly changed agents!

Wow - that's a crazy story with your parents amandacat! It's so frustrating they can blatantly lie and get away with it, because "it was an honest mistake" or some other good excuse like that!

I won’t deal with Connells if I can help it. We arranged a viewing with them and they couldn’t even be bothered to show up and dodged my calls the following day when I called to find out why. Having read this has confirmed that they are to be avoided if possible. Shame though because they kind of have the monopoly around here 🙄

16 years ago I was a FTB and didn't use the EA's mortgage advisor. The EA where the property was listed was a local EA with 6-7 offices in 50 miles radius. As used ex's best friend's fiancee. She worked at a independent financial advisers as the mortgage broker - mates rates

Just tell them you've already paid your broker.

Just an update: I had the meeting with their advisor and enthusiastically committed to consider his mortgage offers. My offer on the house was accepted (yehey!), I considered my options, and I went ahead with my own MA. Thank you all for the advice!
