Easiest method is to backup all important data first like documents.

Reboot go into the computer bios and set it to boot from CD. Insert XP CD, restart and when it prompts in loading up whether to boot from CD let it and theey will be an option to either a full format of the drive/partition or just a quick format, either will do but full is slower then it will install XP.

I done this several times on different pc's despite testing Vista numerous times I come to the conclusion is rubbish. XP works so much better on a laptop too and you be amazed how much more Vista eats into your battery

Make sure you have a genuine XP disc and serial number. It will need to be activated or you wont be able to update it

Is it a new PC? (if so how new)
Why is Vista installed if you don't have a key?

I was thinking more that if it was a Vista generation machine then it will have an SATA drive and no floppy, and installing XP on an SATA drive without a floppy drive is a pain in the backside, unless you have a disk with slipstreamed SATA drivers.

You can install vista without a cd key as a trial... The OP had posted last night looking for a valid key as well.

My XP installing fine on a 2 500GB sata drive on two pcs we had, just as long as I booted xp from a CD in bios. I havent had floopy drives on any of our pc for several years
