British Gas Thought I Had An Imperial Meter

Switched to British Gas last summer.
Had a shock this week, received an email saying I was £500ish in debt and they’re putting up my monthly payment.
I thought I might have used a bit more gas and electric over the last year, but not that much.
turns out they thought I had an imperial gas meter, not a metric one.

Took an hour on live chat to convince them the bill was wrong.
They thought I’d used 23,000 kWh of gas in 180 days. Should have been circa 8,100 kWh.
Looking at the units used and running it through a calculator on ukpower.co.uk it was clear the units to kWh conversion was done as if it was an imperial meter.
They said the bills are calculated in imperial then converted to metric. They also asked about what unit rates I’d used to do my own calculations, despite saying to them I was looking at the units used vs kWh not the price!
Finally they confirmed they thought I had an imperial meter and will get the bills corrected. 👏🙄
Also checked my final bill from my previous supplier, luckily that was worked out correctly.
PPI success. Banding success. Double Dip PCN cancelled! South facing solar (Midlands) and battery. Savings Session supporter (is it worth it now!?)
