Barclays and Barclaycard

A few days ago I was on the phone with the Barclays lending team about my overdraft.
Speaking with them, advised me of the Barclaycard Platinum and of the fact that she could see that I would be approved with a 1k limit. But told me to apply online.
Went through the eligibility checker and got a message saying “we can’t confirm your eligibility. However, you can make a full application” so I did. And now I am waiting as further checks are needed.
I know Barclays uses internal scores for loans and overdrafts offers but not for pre-approval for the Barclaycard as they are two separate companies.
My question is, was the lady from the lending team telling me ballots about the “amazing” Barclaycard limit that she could see I could be approved for?

I know that you can’t apply for the Barclaycard anymore in branch as I have tried a while ago. (Even thought my mum and my mums friend applied in branch 2 years ago as online they kept getting rejected. But in branch they were approved. How weird).

Not these days, look at the footer of the barclaycard website:
Barclaycard is a trading name of Barclays Bank UK PLC

Why the Platinum? The Reward card is a better product

Perhaps they want to spread a purchase interest free for how ever many months they are offered, or perhaps a balance transfer offer that's available, so that's why a Platinum rather than the rewards card.
Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both.

Wait and see what the outcome is - many borderline cases do go through after a bit of manual human intervention and review.

So the lady in the lending team happened to be right. Now don't go spending it all at once :)

I don’t know what the credit limit is like, but I’ll find out next week.

Now I am curious how i should use it to make sure Barclaycard don’t lower the limit in a few months 🤫

You spend what you normally spend on groceries and everyday essentials that you spend now. You don't go off on a spending spree. You keep the money in the bank ready to pay the bill in full. You set up a direct debit to pay in full each and every month, as you are only spending what you always spend. For your very first payment if your direct debit hasn't been set up in time you will have to make a manual payment. That's how you use it - and that's how Barclays won't lower your limit in a few months time.

Yeah I know. Not my first Credit card.

I was referring to the fact that even people that used it as “they should” have had their accounts closed...

It's unlikely they will close a freshly opened account - you should be safe for a couple of years...
