How many times can a manufacturer repair a product and how long can they keep the product in service

Yes... however if you buy on credit, and the item is over £100 and under £30,000 (in most cases), then the credit provider is jointly liable with the retailer. You may have seen Barclaycard advertising their "Section 75 cover" recently however this is a legal requirement of all credit providers.Cuddl3s said:
Thanks for the reply, guess this answers most of my questions. So basically if you've bought anything no matter how expensive even a house if the retailer goes bust so that you can't go to them then you got no recourse even if there is a warranty, brilliant.Sandtree said:
These are covered by T&Cs but as there is no consideration its not even cover by contract law. A such if you want to go down the warranty route and not the statutory right route then unless the T&Cs promise otherwise:Cuddl3s said:Anyway all I was asking were some simple questions namely about the number of repairs, duration of repairs and warranty extension due to prolonged repairs (along with complaints at Samsung) which by the way could also apply if the retailer dealt with the repair so I am hoping that this discussion will be of help to other people such as myself who will search for the answer to these questions in the future.
1) Number of repairs - unlimited
2) Duration - unlimited
3) Extension of warranty - none
UK law gives all the rights against the retailer and none against the manufacture other than in the case of significant injury etc.
The only complexity comes about where the company you pay isn't the company that supplies the goods/service (eg travel agents or paying via PayPal etc).0 -
Yes your contractual rights are against the seller. Curry's do point you in the direction of the manufacturer but that does not change the basic position. I was lucky a few years ago where the manufacturer decide a dishwasher was not repairable and after advising the retailer I was given a full refund. You may get lucky and Samsung decide the item cannot be repaired but if you do get a refund it is likely to be reduced to take account of your usage.0

If you want to continuing banging your head against a wall by using the warranty, then your rights are whatever the terms of the warranty say. However, if your are looking for consumer rights, these are over and above what any warranty will provide but you can only exercise them through Curry’s not Samsung.
Your car example is a bit misleading because your first port of call would be the retailer if anything goes wrong. I can’t see too many people phoning Mercedes in Germany every time something breaks on their nice shiny new E class (or whatever) they have just purchased - they would naturally go to the place they bought it from. And that is what you should do too.Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0 -
I mentioned Curry's even though this was not bought at Curry's as I've had an unrelated issue with them where it's literally been impossible to get them to put the thing right, I've made about 15 calls about it, I even filed a complaint on solver as well as contact their Facebook support and they still wouldn't budge on something that was maybe 25 pounds and should have taken them a max total of 3 minutes to sort out if they really wanted to sort it and I think they should have as they kept my money for months and refused to do the service I paid them for, so I think that all this talk about consumer right with the retailer is rather philosophical unless you can be bothered take them to court which in the case of items under 400 or so is potentially not worth it.Money_Grabber13579 said:If you want to continuing banging your head against a wall by using the warranty, then your rights are whatever the terms of the warranty say. The reason why I went through the warranty was that I've previously had contact with other manufacturer's (much much smaller manufacturers than Samsung) again at the suggestion of the retailer and they've sorted my issue in record time (as far as I am concerned about 5-7 days) and first time around, so had no reason to expect anything less from a well establish international firm such as Samsung.
Ironically a couple of years ago I had a Samsung SSD which became faulty they also sorted out in record time (I think it was about 5-7 days as well) which I doubt many retailers would be able to match. I used to be a great supporter of theirs always praising them based on that experience but after this experience with the monitor has trust in them has been completely shaken.0 -
Looks like I've missed something here, where was it actually bought from ?
