Huge Electric usage help!
I am looking for some advice, I’ve lived in my current rented house for over a year now and my electric bill + usage are huge
they are estimating I’m using between 900-1000kwh a month however looking at my meter the actual readings would be between 1000-1200kwh a month, photo below snapshot of my monthly estimate usage
I live in a 2 bed semi detatched house, no gas only electric, we have 3 storage heaters and 1 electric. 1 storage heater is sometimes used, other than that 1 electric heater is used for 30 minute periods to quickly warm a room up (very rarely though)
nothing unusual is left on in the house with 2 adults working full time so for 9 hours a day often no one is home.

Is this electric usage per month to be expected or is there likely a problem? I’ve spoken to the electric company many times they only ask for new readings and the bill shoots up they’ve never checked with me that it is actually correct.
im looking for advise does this seem the right amount of usage? Should I seek a independent electrician to look at this? Could I have some faulty appliances?

On the high side but not much so.
Avoid using the fan heater and keep the showers short.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Usage looks fine, how do you control your water heating? Is the timer set to use the lower night time rate?0

Estimates always end in tears because they are just that - estimates. Always send monthly meter readings and ignore all savings claims and projections. It doesn't make any sense to compare monthly readings because they will vary a great deal with the seasons. Just think annual kWh from actual meter readings.Your kWh rates of 15.981p day and 12.18p night could probably be bettered. Start comparing annual costs with Citizens Advice and 'Which? Switch'.Never use an instantaneous electric shower (unless it's between midnight and 7am or whatever).0

Nothing obviously wrong there and I wouldn't describe the usage as 'huge' for an all electric house.

Thanks for the advice, it may just be me I just found it odd that the day at night use was so close when during the day no one is home!0

Perhaps a couple of checks - is the hot water being heated only at night ? The hot water tank has two elements - the bottom one is used at night and should be switched on ; the top one is a boost and should be switched .
Take your showers before 0700 - 2 people taking a 10min 10kW shower a day uses about 3/4 kWh. That's 100 kWh a monthNever pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
480 seems a lot to me for daytime use.

OP, our all electric storage heated house cost £250 per month in winter. It's bigger than yours but your numbers don't sound infeasible. Your day usage does look a bit high though. As well as the above do any of the storage heaters have a daytime boost?0
