What goes down well for dessert after Christmas dinner?

Fresh fruit salad, made with pineapple juice. We always have a trifle and christmas pudding. But the kids never eat it. As I am the only adult this year, I shall not bother. ( I say only adult the twins are 19 but still kids to me).
But I normally use a Birds eye trifle mix, but now a new money saver, its Tesco Value Jelly at 12p. Mixed Fruit cocktail, at 22p. Custard thickened with cornflour, 19p but fresh whipped cream. No idea what it costs at the moment. Good luck with what ever you decide. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -

Both nice and easy, let me know if you want the recipe for either.

Panettone, anytime!
To make it even snazzier (although I prefer mine straight, I have to say) you can cut the top, scoop the inside and fill it with good quality ice cream, put the top back and store in the freezer until time to eat.
Serve sliced with side helping of whipped cream.

We have raspberry pavlova as no-one except me likes christmas pudding. We also need something light after a big dinner!“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

When my DH joined our clan we all converted to his family tradition of having fruit pavlova (anything you fancy) after Christmas lunch, and then having the Christmas pud for tea.I'd rather be a could-be if I cannot be an are; because a could-be is a maybe who is reaching for a star. I'd rather be a has-been than a might-have-been, by far; for a might have-been has never been, but a has was once an are – Milton Berle0

I've got a recipe for a baked cheesecake with a cranberry topping, it came from a Sainsbury's Magazine Christmas supplement a few years ago. It makes a nice alternative to Christmas pud and looks really festive with the cranberries. Also good for a Christmas eve or boxing day buffet. It's long, but I will post it if you like?
I will also be making a Black Forest Trifle with layers of the following in this order:
Chocolate sponge moistened with Cherry Brandy.
Cherries (jar from Lidl)
Custard (home made, with eggs & cream)
Whipped cream
Chocolate shavings on top
For a child friendly, alcohol-free version, moisten the sponge with the juice from the jar of cherries instead of the cherry brandy. A true trifle should not contain jelly, although I know lots of people use it, I think it is always better without.Official DFW Nerd No 096 - Proud to have dealt with my debt!0 -
WOW we can never eat anything after the Christmas dinner...It may be because I cook way too much but it is always a case of wobble off to the sofa and don't move until about 10pm when we can just about fit in some Christmas pudding~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
