Probate application - ID Returned, any idea how long now?

It may be different when a solicitor is acting on your behalf or something like that. It's unsettling because you aren't really kept informed along the way, a quick google also has you fearing the worst! There was also IHT payable on this application, maybe ID requirements are different then too?poppystar said:
I applied by post too and couldn’t remember ever being asked for ID either. I’m pretty sure though that they never sent back the death certificate. It is extra confusing when the different forms of application have different requirements, as you say. Adds to the little moments of panic.BooJewels said:I had a little panic then, we sent off the probate application by post and they got it a month ago today. I didn't send any ID and don't remember seeing anything about needing to. So it sounds like different formats of application may have different requirements.
I got the death certificate back a few days ago, so I hope that means it is progressing as expected. I'm in no rush, as it happens (just need it to sell the house, which isn't ready yet), more concerned that we've actually done it right.
I'll update when I hear back.0 -
From the date of posting the application to the central probate office to receiving the Grant of Probate was exactly one month, 6th April to 6th May this year. What was even more remarkable, I sent the request to close accounts at Virgin Money last Friday, May 7th and the funds arrived in my account today! The estate was under the inheritance tax threshold and it seems around a month is currently the average time for those estates if you apply yourself. If you go through a solicitor the probate fees are lower but the system seems slower!0

Just out of curiosity @Alan_Bowen - does your recently granted status show, if you search for the name and year of death on the Government web site at https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk/ - I did a search a week or so ago and the latest one with our name was granted at the end of April and I was curious how long after it's granted before it appears on the official register - can't be that long if one is showing from 2 weeks ago. I just periodically refresh the page to see if it shows yet - might just show there before I get the papers.0

I have just checked and 'yes' the grant of probate and will are listed1

Thanks for that Alan. I just refreshed my name page and whilst ours isn't showing yet, one is from yesterday, so the list obviously updates very promptly.0
