Self Assessment Wrong Tax Account

in Cutting tax
Hi. First post and hope this is the right category!
I am registering for self assessment tax returns for the first time due to rental income. I have just set up the account today and in error (no idea how) I have set up a Business Tax Account.
It seems to be linked to my Personal Tax Account so they know I’m the same person, but I have to log into the Business Account to complete the return.
Is this going to cause any issues at all? Will there be any information missing?
Thank you.

Just to add I’ve tried to call HMRC but was on hold for a very long time before it eventually cut off.

Maybe you ARE running a business - see Renting out your property: Paying tax and National Insurance - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)#2 Saving for Christmas 2024 - £1 a day challenge. £325 of £3660

Thank you but definitely don’t meet that criteria. I set it up in error as I should have logged into the personal account first rather than set up a new account, so it wasn’t a default thing.JGB1955 said:Maybe you ARE running a business - see1 -
Can you clarify what you mean by setting up a business account? Do you simply mean that you have registered for self-assessment? If so, there is nothing to be concerned about.justtoolittletoolate said:

I had to set up a new government gateway account with a new ID. When I log in it says business account and allows me to add a company etc. There’s no personal PAYE information for me there.0

When I log into my personal tax account with my original gateway ID, I can see a link to my ‘business account’ which I click on, and it asks me to log in again with the other ID. I can only do the self assessment on the business account rather than personal. Hope that makes sense.0

I have to say that I am perplexed by this. Is there no option to file a return on your personal tax account?justtoolittletoolate said:When I log into my personal tax account with my original gateway ID, I can see a link to my ‘business account’ which I click on, and it asks me to log in again with the other ID. You should not have a separate ID for a ‘business account’0 -
No, when I click on ‘self assessment’ in my personal tax account, it tells me that it is registered under another account and takes me to the log in page.[Deleted User] said:

Sorry. I have never come across this in the 24 years since self-assessment commenced. If you need to speak to HMRC try 8am sharp.justtoolittletoolate said:

Thank you anyway. I’ve done some goggling and found people with the same issue (can’t post links as I’m new) and there doesn’t seem to be anything to worry about. I’m just a bit annoyed with myself and worried I’ve messed it up somehow.
