British Gas sending me bills

Hi
I moved in on 26th March and notified Octopus Energy about this and having been paying for service as such.

However, I keep getting bills from British Gas, whom I'm not with nor ever have been with.

I have spent hours trying to get through to a human to speak to but to. No avail.

Am I OK to ignore these letters?
Many thanks
Z

Sounds like BG were the existing supplier at your address when you moved in, so no, you can't ignore the bills.
When you take over responsibility for a new property you must register with the existing supplier first as you are under a deemed contract from the moment you use the first electricity/gas, and only after setting up an account with the existing supplier can you begin the process to switch to your preferred supplier...

    Oh whoops.
  • I moved to BG in October and cannot access my account through app or website. Finally got through to a human in January who said they were having problems but I was due a bill in April anyway. Have not been able to submit a reading since switching to them. Automated service tells me I am £598.50 in credit. I would like to be able to manage my finances properly - bad show!

@AJWatts     Do you keep your own records at all - a simple spreadsheet which can can calculate the costs and take into account your DD's ?
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

    Oh whoops.
    Yes a BIG OH WOOPS.

You have been in contract with British Gas since the 26th March as deemed existing supplier.

So not Ok to ignore letters from the company who is legally and actually supplying your energy!

Register an account ASAP with your existing deemed supplier BG  and then initiate a transfer to Octopus who you are paying for not supplying you energy. LOL.

Once all goes through pay your final bill to for your usage to your actual supplier BG and then start to actually pay Octopus for the energy used from that date.

You are entitled to a refund from Octopus for your mistake.   :s
