Unable to get a refund for Cycling Holiday

I have been trying to receive a refund from a company called Love Velo, who I had booked a break to compete in the 2020 312 event in Majorca.  Due to the pandemic, this event was moved from April to October to April and now postponed again. I am unable to commit to the rescheduling of the event in the future and therefore wish a refund.
I originally paid for the event as part ofd a group and therefore my payment was to a friend who subsequently paid Love Velo.
Love Velo are now saying they are talking to their partners about credits, although they have previously refunded another party member.
What can I do?

Why isn't your friend organising a refund for everyone in the group.

@Thrugelmir unfortunately some of the group are holding on for the event, but I am unable to commit.

I think a problem maybe that you paid another person and they paid for the trip. Thus, Love Velo have no direct contract with you.

What did the trip include? Was it a ‘package’ including flights, accommodation, side trips etc? Or were these all booked individually? Was an ATOL certificate issued? Do the t&c’s as originally booked allow for whoever booked your trip to receive a refund (and hopefully they pass it onto you)?

It could be that the other person who received a refund booked the trip using their own credit/debit card and thus may have benefitted from a chargeback or S75?

Was the accommodation and/or ancillary package actually still available during the booked trip?

I think it will come down to the t&c’s at the time the original trip was booked.

Failing that, have you tried via your own travel insurance?

Then unfortunately, your problem / contract is with your friend and you'll need to work it out with them. You don't have a contract with Love Velo, your friend does. You're not entitled to anything on a personal level.

Realistically your friend's only recourses are to cancel the whole lot (money is then gone), politely ask the company if they'll cancel the whole lot and refund (they really may not be legally required to do this and they may say no) or ask politely to downsize the party (and they can again say no).

    Was there travel insurance?

Have you asked the other person how they got a refund?
When did they claim and on what grounds?
