Fingers crossed then that we can get get the smart meter installed next week without any complications!!! Even though our electric Aga needs around 6 hours to recharge the storage heater blocks overnight, it will still be a lot lower cost for us to use the Octopus Go Faster tariff with five hours of off peak rate and an hour of peak rate, than our current Eco 7 tariff. I will just need to make a few simple changes to the wiring and add a timer switch to accommodate this.

Like @lohr500 I am looking to change over. I am with Pure Planet and looking to switch over to a smart meter before moving. Having contacted them, they have passed me on to the smart meter installers. Been about two months now and still 'no engineers in my area'. Is it the same few companies that install smart meters and how long is a reasonable waiting time?

I recently switched to Octopus for the Go tariff, and started on an interim tariff as the existing smart meter had been installed some considerable time ago by Scottish Power. I was expecting to have to wait until new smart meters were installed to be switched to Go but it appears the existing meter is usable so the switch was done  within the first 2 weeks.

I think more earlier meters are suitable than those stated, but Octopus cannot tell until the switch has been made and they have remote access to it.

If consumers have a Secure SMETS1 meter then Octopus can get data from it, and if a SMETS1 meter has been enrolled and adopted by The DCC, then data capture is also available to Octopus. To date, over 3M SMETS1 meters  from a variety of manufacturers have now been E and A’d onto the DCC.

I am guessing that you have an Elster meter?

Yes, but the peak Go rate is considerably cheaper than Octopus’ fixed unit price of 19.144p/kWh. Given what we are seeing on Agile and Tracker, I think that Ofgem must be looking at a big hike in the Price Cap come Autumn. This will be another challenge for the Government: that is, two significant price hikes in a 12 month period.

Courtesy of guylipman, these seem to be the increased rates:

    Region A, from 14.1225 to 15.96

    B: from 13.4505 to 15.33

    C, from 14.7105 to 15.897.

    D : from 14.6265 to 16.674

    E: from 13.7235 to 15.645

    F from 12.9255 to 14.994

    G from 13.965 to 15.03

    H from 13.797 to 15.5925

    J from 14.3955 to 16.2645

    K from 14.0175 to 15.9075

    L from 14.2905 to 16.2645

    M from 13.314 to 15.183

    N from 14.1855 to 16.0335

    P from 14.4585 to 16.9155

Now with the new rates, go is no longer the default best tariff to go on, so you'll have to do those sums again!
