I'm looking for some free windows software which will enable me to synchronise folders on my hard drive with an external NAS backup drive.
Specific features that I am looking for are:
- sync rather than backup functionality - i.e. deleting files on the destination which have been removed from the source
- individual scheduling for each job (e.g. automatically running the sync process every day for my email folder, but only weekly for my photos folder)
Does anyone have any recommendations?

It can be done through windows though Scheduled Tasks
From the Start menu, select All Programs | Accessories | System Tools | Scheduled Tasks.
Select Add scheduled task to start the Scheduled Task Wizard. You will see a list of possible programs to run.
SyncToy may appear as an option in the list. If SyncToy does not appear in the list, click Browse and go find it.
The wizard will next prompt you to enter how often you want to run the scheduled SyncToy (for example, daily, weekly, et cetera). Select a frequency.
The next page asks when to start the task. Select a start time.
The next page asks for the user name and password to run the program under. Enter your user name and password.
The final page contains an option to open the properties dialog when the wizard ends. Select this checkbox.0 -
Read the Help in Synctoy as you have to amend the command slightly in the Scheduled Tasks.
You browse from the scheduled Tasks to find Synctoy then add something along the lines of "space" - R, but it's all in the Help section.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
One more vote for synctoy, coupled with task scheduler it's just about everything you'll ever need.0
