New Dishwasher - 60cm Dishwasher with 45cm cupboards?

Options
Hi all,
After living in my own flat for 6 years I've finally taken the plunge and decided to buy a dishwasher! Huge step I know 😅. I've got my heart set on a Bosch SMV68MD01G, which is supposedly one of the best you can get. Problem is it's a 60cm dishwasher and my cupboards are only 45cm. Is it possible to fit this dishwasher in to my kitchen roughly as it is, and if so, how much is that likely to cost to get it fit, and will it still look reasonable? Here's some photos of my kitchen around the sink.
Lola the cat says hello. I've already had a tradesperson take an interest after asking for quotes on myjobquotes but he doesn't have any reviews 😬. He didn't seem very keen on fitting a 60cm dishwasher and suggested a slimline. Seemingly full sized are more water efficient though, and while I do only live alone I would like to have guests and be able to clean most if not all of the bits used to cook when they visit (once that's possible again of course!).

Thanks.

It looks like your sink is in the wrong place to slide in a 600mm dishwasher with ease.  An option could be to replace the sink so the drainer is on the right hand side* and put the dishwasher there on the right in place of the 2no 300mm units.  Your other option is as the plumber says, a 450mm dishwasher.

*with the caveat that I can't work out what is to the left but your cooker/hob looks VERY close....?

What is going on in the rest of the kitchen?  A plan or more photos would be helpful.

You seem to have a 'mini' kitchen but want a full size dishwasher.  The photos are a bit confusing - a plan of the kitchen and widths of all undercounter cupboards might help.  You also need to consider where the electrical and plumbing connections are going to be....  You won't be able to put a dishwasher immediately under the sink so......? (You won't be able to put the dishwasher in the far right cupboard either because the door will snag with the fridge/freezer when you open it downwards).

I can see that it's made them tall and skinny, but we aren't bothered about that, what we need to see is what is where and more importantly, what else there is, elsewhere.

I didn't even see the fridge on the right!

OP, a plan, handrawn if that is all you have, of the whole kitchen is what is needed.

Ah, it turns out the cupboards are 50cm. Who needs hand drawn when you can design it online  . Only differences between this and my kitchen are as follows:
    • The door at the top on the right is where my fridge freezer is.
    • Door on the right side at the bottom is where my washing machine is
    • The cupboards underneath the hobs are actually a 50cm cupboard and 30cm cupboard.
    • The sink also has a draining board next to it on the left is that is above the third 50cm cupboard (starting from the top right)
I'm thinking that the 50cm cupboard underneath the draining board and the 30cm cupboard to its left (which is partially underneath the hobs) could be combined for the dishwasher. I do not need the cupboard space.
    Thanks.

One drawback of a full-size dishwasher is the amount of crockery and cutlery you need to fill it to run efficiently. When I had one I had 20 of everything and about 50 teaspoons!  That also means you need more storage for when it's all clean. My slim-line one takes 10 place settings plus serving dishes - I rarely wash non-stick cookware in it as it can damage the surface. It has loads of energy-saving features and is basically silent to run.

This. The full sized models may look more efficient on paper, but this is based on running them full. If you rarely generate enough washing up to fill them they will be much less efficient.

We are a family of four, and still only run our slimline once daily. If money and space were limitless I'd probably have two slimlines rather than a full size one. I wouldn't get a full sized one if I lived alone, and especially not if I had to rip half the kitchen out to fit o e in!

Okey doke, you've all convinced me, slimline it is. I've even found the one I want, a Bosch model I can connect to my phone no less. Now to get some quotes. Thanks.

Watch out for any pipework behind the unit you're planning on putting the DW in. Most (all ?) have virtually zero space behind them, so any pipework on the wall will mean the machine doesn't fit flush with the units.

If it's slimline (in particular) a cutlery drawer at the top is a much more efficient use of space than a basket.
