If I was unemployed I would get my rent and council tax paid, as it stands I am getting by on less than £100 a week, my daughter suffers from anxiety and extreme shyness, she tried college after leaving school but it was too much for her. It costs me £100 a month to get to work, I do not wish to quit my job, I love it but why should I be worse off in work?
If you left your job you would need to claim UC to have money to live off as you cannot make a new claim for JSA. You would then be expected to look for work earning 35 x nmw.

Is your rent Housing association or council or private rent. If you were to claim UC and your full rent was covered by the rent element ( it may not be if private rented ), you would get £406.75 Uc per month when the covid uplift ends.
Glad we got the same answer!
Sorry I didn't see you had already answered !

I think you were probably working it out at the same time as me.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.

Is it possible to do more hours at your existing job or get another? that assumes you have no minor children or health problems preventing full time work.

You would have your earnings and £493 per month from UC, which will reduce to £406 from October. Council tax reduction isn't part of UC. This means if your rent is £550 per month then you would have £700 per month without paying the council tax.
I've also asked twice about your daughter and college... If it's non advanced education then you would be able to claim the child element.

Uc is calculated by adding together any elements you are entitled to claim. So you would get a standard element of £324.84 ( after the covid uplift ends in september ) and a rent element. The rent element you are entitled to would depend on the local authority housing rate for the number of bedrooms you are able to claim for. these two elements are added together to make your total UC. Then your wages reduce this total amount. For each pound you earn you would lose 67 p of Uc.
Council tax reduction is completely seperate to Uc but I believe they do look at the amount of Uc you receive to work out what deduction you will get.
