E: 12/05 Win a historic break for two near Aylesbury
Sunday Times Where Was I? competition
The prize:
The winner and guest will stay for two nights’ B&B, at Hartwell House, a mansion near Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire that’s owned by the National Trust. Built in the 17th century, with significant Georgian additions, the house is full of splendid period details. The Great Hall, for example, is essentially unchanged since 1739. Previous guests include King Louis XVIII, who stayed at the house between 1809 and 1814 with 100 courtiers, before taking the throne.
Now the house is a Relais & Châteaux hotel, with 48 rooms and suites, as well as an indoor swimming pool and spa. It’s set in more than 90 acres of landscaped parkland, which – along with the kitchen garden – have been restored by the head gardener Richard Jones.
The prize includes one à la carte dinner for two (with a bottle of house wine), as well as afternoon tea and champagne. It must be taken before December 16, 2021, subject to availability and excluding July and August.
