RBS isn’t my main account but I use their Rewards accounts as well as their Regular Saver. Same for Natwest. I have not found anything ‘unpleasant’ about them. Their app is, IMO, one of the best currently available. The conpetition is fierce, though: Lloyds/Halifax/BOS, Starling, Monzo are in the leading pack, too.

I am still sticking with Santander as my main account, as they pay me around a fiver net a month for my Direct Debits, and as I have them as my ‘nominated’ account in many places. The Santander app is, however, stuck in the past and they are testing my patience quite severely.
  • Halifax is best for and HSBC worst but, to be honest it all depends which banks are still in your local high street.

It depends what you want out of a bank, and whether you have a local branch.

If there isn't a branch near you, post office access is useful, and Nationwide / Metro don't offer post office counter services.

An app which supports paying in cheques using your phone's camera is also a valuable feature, currently the only Banking group offering this feature who I would consider Banking with is Lloyds (inc. Halifax / BOS).

From the Lloyds Banking group stable my personal choice is Lloyds themselves rather than BOS or Halifax.

Avoid RBS Group / NatWest like the plague.

Also trying Starling, though not sure what advantages are of use to me.
    thanks
Starling are unbeatable if you need a full-functional Euro account.

In general, their help facilities and their CS are excellent, and they have some unique features, such create your own statement and they pioneered instant notifications.

Not a High Street account, though, so not what the OP is looking for.
