Even OH's getting interested..............he looked at me as if I was stark raving bonkers when I first mentioned doing gift baskets and cutting down the cost, then he hit on the wine bottle idea for the bubble bath and he's now trying to think of more things we can 're-cycle'................:j

And youre right taplady......its very satisfying, gives the 'feel good factor'

mary I was given a similar present, mine had glittery bits and what I pressume were small silk flower petals, looked very pretty, was a lovely thing I never used however as looked great next to the bath, until I bathed the dog, forgot it was there and it got broke :(
One day I might be more organised...........

  • I have saved some lovely ribbon too. I am in a show every christmas with my dance group and always keep bits of ribbon and anything sparkly as it is useful for making costumes.

Last year we had crackers which had short pieces of red gingham ribbon round them. I saved it and this year used it to fasten gingerbread hearts from Ikea (about 59p for ten)to the Christmas tree.

I do scrapbooking so save anything that might be useful-ribbon, sequins etc.

    Hi,

I would definately do the same and very similar to Crazychik.

I've brought cheap ribbon in the sales in the past couple of years but I can bear to use any of it as it's so nice. :o

I got a couple of small packs of 'sale' Christmas embelishments today for 90p but figured I could use them as templates to make my own.:p

Where does everyone keep all their bits and bobs? I have bags and boxes of stuff everywhere. Wish I could have some sort of organiser for all my stuff. I'm sure such a thing must exist.

i generally reuse most of the packaging from chrismas pressies over the year. once we have acertainded that the gift works my dad useses any plastic insersts or "windows" in boxes for his train models ( they become carraige windows) small boxes are used for storing his train bits. larger boxes and cardboard go into the craft store at church and will be used for craft in the junior church. ribbon and christmas cards go into my craft box and are either used for my christmas trimmings or junior church craft. but either way it eventually gets reused.

I just can't get rid of ribbons and bows from presents now. My family all know I save all the nice bits and pieces, so when I reuse them to wrap their presents, they keep them and return them to me.
I've got so many now I think I'll donate them to my granddaughter's school.

It is a great idea to recycle. I am not any good at crafts ect, but always recycle the gift bags that I am given.

Not sure if anyone watches "Friends"... but even Monica had a "ribbon drawer" :D

i also do much of the same.

one year i 'rescued' the box that our crackers came in - we had posh crackers that year, so it was a big, strong box. it is now home to my gift wrap supply.

this year, i had been racking my brains to try and think of a suitable storage option for my supply of "damn, i forgot so&so's birthday/anniversary etc" cards. i received a perfume set for christmas, in a very pretty box which was the perfect size for my need. happy days :D
