In all my years in the trade we never checked the MOT history of a vehicle prior to testing, It was booked in and the tester did his job. We recorded the mileage on the job card  as part of the booking in priocess and yes there was the odd time when the tester enetered wrong information and he had to issue a new certificate. The reason cor cancellin/replacing the certificate was always recorded for audit purposes.

I don't think it'll make the car any harder to sell. A lack of service history would make a car harder to sell - an easily explainable admin error wouldn't bother many people - especially as it's 12 years old now, and by the time you sell it - maybe 13 or 14 years? Cars that are reaching that age are more about the service history and condition than anything else. (And no - they wouldn't have to check the mileage and then declare it to you)
I was under the understanding that many dealers do not hand over service history anymore cause of GDPR
I agree that no one will care if a 13 year old car had a haircut many years ago

I agree with a previous poster, that lack of service history is more of an issue than an obvious, to me, typo.

A question I would ask is, if the figures were correct(ed), would you have gone through with the purchase?
It'll be alright in the end. If it's not alright, it's not the end....

Has it been with the same owner?
Have they connected a scan tool?
  • Not enough miles on it previously or removed for it to be worth while on a cheap enough common car.
