Asking for my dad he’s 83 and until recently he had an ASDA credit card the ASDA card no longer exists and he’s been using a debit card to do his weekly shop.
what are his chances of obtaining another credit card at his age? Can anyone recommend a card interest rates probably not much of an issue as he always pays the balance in full
thanks

I should ad the card no longer exists because ASDA withdrew from the credit card market not because he lost it!0

Get him to try an eligibility checker for guidance.0

Easiest may be applying to the bank where his current account is held.#2 Saving for Christmas 2024 - £1 a day challenge. £325 of £3662

He really doesn’t have a current account in fact he thought he’d closed his bank accounts when they closed the local branch! I agree he must have some kind of current account in order to have a debit card! But he has to toddle from the building society with cash to the post office to “top up” his card! His pension is paid into his building society account and he has to visit there 3 times a week he won’t believe me when I tell him I’ve not set foot in a bank in 3 years and that was to take my Mrs out for lunch before she retired from Barclays!JGB1955 said:Easiest may be applying to the bank where his current account is held.0 -
He sounds like the sort of person who will inevitably end up with problems if he insists on using top-up/pre-paid debit cards paid with cash - what if he was robbed or lost the cash (or lost the pre-paid card) or was unable to make the transfer as he couldn't get to the post office? The post office do a credit card (albeit one with bad reviews since they moved to JaJa). He needs a bank account (you can pay into most of them at the PO anyway) or see if the building society issue a credit card as they at least see his pension income.1

His pension is paid in to the BS, do they offer a current account? @Deleted_User is right, muddling along with a pre-paid debit card is not a great idea.99blooming9 said:But he has to toddle from the building society with cash to the post office to “top up” his card! No the Furness Building society don’t offer a current account nor do they offer a credit card.He closed his bank accounts out of principle when the two banks closed in town. I believe he’s now been approved for an Ocean credit card I spoke to him this morning!1

I think JaJa only bought the legacy Post Office credit card business (formerly run by Bank of Ireland). If you apply for a new Post Office credit card today, it's run by another issuer, but I forget which one.Deleted_User said:The post office do a credit card (albeit one with bad reviews since they moved to JaJa).

Capital One run the new Post Office credit cards and are the ones that also run the Ocean Credit card that was mentioned in an earlier post.kuratowski said:

Why a credit card rather than a debit card?99blooming9 said:No the Furness Building society don’t offer a current account nor do they offer a credit card.He closed his bank accounts out of principle when the two banks closed in town.
