I think that you need to clarify with the solicitor who drafted the Deed of Trust and/or HMRC as to what type of trust this is and what tax treatment should apply.

Exactly. As long as the trustees are tinkering with deductions from the trust income, it looks, as per my previous post, as though they are accountable to HMRC for tax on the rent.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I've now taken some professional advice from a firm of solicitors and I've spoken to someone at HMRC. The issue has now been satisfactorily resolved.3
