Haven't tried Lidl coffee beans, thanks for the tip. I've just been diagnosed with Atrial Flutter and have been advised to take decaffmaisie_cat said:I know it's slightly off topic, but I didn't realise that instant coffee is more expensive that buying beans. A kilo of beans is circa £6 in Lidl and makes 140 cups. A 200g jar of coffee makes 100 cups on average. I haven't used instant coffee in 35 years, but always thought of using real coffee as a luxury because it was a no compromise no matter how poor we get thing.
at the minute I'm half and half. I do enjoy a good strong cup of coffee, but it's obv not got the same kick now

When checking out of Waitrose it asks if you want a paper receipt. Worth checking to see if Morrisons do the same?GSDMum said:
Yes she did. What threw me was that there wasn't a paper receipt, I was expecting a similar procedure to Tesco which provides a clear hard copy on what's been substituted and what's been charged. I wasn't expecting it all to be digital. My mistakemaisie_cat said:Did the member of staff point the substitutions out to you? They always do to me, and you then have a choice. All supermarket c&c works the same, the bill isn't final until you have collected & accepted.

I thought the instant coffee prices the OP quoted were expensive compared to what we pay (at worst, we can always find 300g jars for £5 or under in one supermarket or another), but then realised they were after decaff - I'm not sure you can get decaff beans ?

Well done, GSDMum, for your price comparison chart.
Here's what "Which?" says for April in its monthly price check of 82 items.Cheapest to most expensive:AsdaSainsbury'sMorrisonsTescoOcadoWaitrose1 -
I don't think they can be using my shopping list! Sainsbury is always more expensive than Tesco, and Morrisons usually is. Asda and Tesco tend to come out cheaper for us, but the fruit and veg is better in our Tescos. But actually I get most stuff in Aldi and only go to Tesco/Asda to buy what I can't get there.0
