1st Central Car insurance payment "failed"?

Last month I insured my car with 1st Central. Paid the 1st monthly payment by card no problem. The second payment was due to come out today and they emailed me to say there was a problem taking the payment and now I would be charged and additional £15 default fee on top of the £59 that is due for the month. I checked my bank and card and all is working fine (Starling Bank). I've used my card today in the shops and a direct debit came out yesterday fine. Plenty of funds in the account as well.

I will call them tomorrow, but in the mean time has anyone had any experience with these people? Another way to get extra money out of us by claiming the payment couldn't be taken? Thanks.

You need a much more explicit statement from your bank. "its all working fine" means nothing... for months my Barclay's debit card was "working fine" but every attempt to make a payment to Natwest Credit Card failed due to an oversensitive counter-fraud system.

Did they receive a continuous payment authority payment request? If they did what was their response? etc
