Quick query. Soon I might be moving with my wife out of my owned house (selling) and into parents' home pending purchase of new property that may not occur at same time as sale. I know that monies from house sale would be disregarded for up to 6 months or more in some cases. But I presume Universal Credit will be otherwise unaffected (although obviously changes will be reported) given we have no housing costs?

That will depend whether there's equity in your own home and the reasons why you're moving out. UC is means tested and savings/capital of more than £16,000 means you won't be entitled to any UC, although your house can be disregarded for 26 weeks, sometimes longer if you're selling it.

I own the house outright... my understanding is if intention is to purchase another home to live in with money received from its sale then the disregard applies as you point to. More my query is that I assume my parents situation if we moved in with them, temporarily after selling, would not affect the means testing for U/C for us as a couple.

Your parents will not affect the amount of UC you're entitled to but moving in with them may affect their benefits, if they claim any. The disregard will apply for the reason stated but a decision maker may ask for evidence that you're planning on buying another house and/or selling your current home.

All they get is state pensions... I presume unaffected?

Good morning Muttley, trust you are well..good to see some old faces still about.

I did think that you had already emptied your house and moved in with your parents. No matter. I don’t suppose this makes any issue with your situation around UC.

What I really wanted to ask was did you solve the situation with your solar panels? I know you were concerned that the payback that the solar panels initiative provided was going to be lost by yourself when you moved. Now you’ve sold, have you remedied this? I’d be interested to know how if you could be so kind, I think I am going to be in a similar to do in a few months. I’m happy for a private message if that makes you feel a little easier.
