Would I be able to get compensation without involving a solicitor?

agree there is a problem of expectations - women are encouraged to write nice fluffy birth plans and then get upset when they don't happen. I didn't have one, midwife suggested I wrote one so I said "OK, I'll go 2 weeks overdue, be induced, require augmentation, emergency section for failure to progress" - pointed out that this was as likely as any other outcome, all of which were unpredictable. Fortunately she saw the funny side of it and agreed they were a bit pointless.
Only choices I made were
1) did I want the kids to have injectable Vit K?
2) who did I want to do the suturing?1
