Painfully slow mortgage application (Nationwide)

I got my mortgage offer a couple of weeks ago from Clydesdale. It took them 10 weeks, including 2 weeks to amend the interest rate that they got wrong.
We were not expecting this at all and we’re very glad we proceeded with all the other stuff while we were waiting, as it ended up being the last thing we were waiting on to exchange. Originally I had wanted to wait because the offer we had from HSBC last year took less than a week so I thought it would be the same!0 -
Virgin were quick with their mortgage offer recently but I have heard that NW are slow because they are the busiest with regard to new mortgage applications. Plus in your case things got delayed because of their questions, now resolved.
It doesn't mean that you need to worry.0 -
We were 8 days with accord mortgages - was so surprised with how quick they were!! X
our mortgage in principle was with nationwide but our mortgage advisor found a better deal so went with that and 8 days later was accepted0 -
For the benefit of applicants who come across this thread - Nationwide average service levels have got significantly worse since this thread began in May.
They're now taking up to 14 working days to process documents, so one query can add 2-3 weeks to the process.
On the plus side, unless you're limited to them due to the 5.5x Helping Hand product, their rates aren't particularly competitive at the moment so I rarely have to recommend Nationwide for non helping-hand clients.

Our buyer applied for Nationwide mortgage over 12 weeks ago, same story as elves.London etc. Last week Nationwide asked broker for address of employer, at this rate could take another 3 months so we are taking house off market (at a cost to all involved), as house we hoped to buy have got fed up of waiting.0

I've heard Nationwide mortgages are taking a very long time at the moment, our broker advised us to apply with them. Having some problems also getting bank statements so wonder if something is going on back office.0

I waited just over 6 weeks for my mortgage offer with Nationwide as my valuation went missing in action.0
