Maybe I've got this all wrong. I imagined a forum such as this would be a good place to start looking for helpful advice/opinion before seeking professional counsel. I ask the question: do the actions of the claimant and his agent constitute harassment? Instead of 'yes/no/ possibly' I'm getting the suggestion that I should be proactive in proving to the claimant that full payment was made (I suspect it's for the claimant to prove the opposite), together with a few snide, sarcastic comments. Yep. I definitely got this all wrong.
If it was me, that's exactly what I'd do.
I'd want to get this DCA off my back, even knowing that they have no right to chase me for this now paid up debt.
I would much rather do this than have some heavy turn up on my doorstep.

But you do what you think will make you feel better about this situation.
    For me, life's too short...
  • why not simply get a copy of the processed cheque and send that?
More energy is being spent being obstructive than where as being a little proactive would have cleared up this matter ages ago

At the end of the day if this is real and you are not just another troll then yes you will have to prove you have paid.  Its impossible for the claimment to prove the opposite.   All they do is state you have not.  The company they have employed believe them.  Its up to you to prove otherwise.

It’s nothing to do with them messing it up. You’re responding in this way because you’re angry they won the court case.

Anyway I agree with the others. This isn’t harassment and you could make this situation far more simple if you simply just provide the evidence. Did you try and just give them the date the cheque cleared?

If this did make it to court I can’t imagine the judge would be very impressed with you. The chances of you being awarded costs is slim to none. I’d say there’s more chance they’ll get costs awarded to them to be honest.

What's the meaning of the phrase 'Make a rod for your own back'?

To 'make a rod for your own back' is to do something that inadvertently creates troubles or misfortune in the future.

The expression is usually used when someone has done something which seemed like a good idea at the time but comes back to bite them in some unexpected way.

I agree, it is understandable that you are angry but, to answer your initial question, yes you are being unreasonable and you are risking even more financial pain and headaches for yourself in the future; spend an inconsequential amount of time supplying a redacted statement and copy of the cheque and move on with your life.
