Base Coat Paint for covering Texture

Hi Everyone,
Just really looking for some advice. We have recently moved into a new house and want to basically paint every room. However what we have noticed is that every room has an orange peel texture paint already (painted magnolia). It is not a heavy texture but it is definitely a texture. The problem is most rooms over the years have had wall repairs and have had filler applied so there are large areas of smooth patches. So if I just paint the walls I'm going to end up with an uneven job with texture and smooth patches.
I have looked online and saw I had a few options, firstly to try and sand the texture (not successful and very time consuming), heat gun and also steam have proved to be not overly successful and again would prove to be incredible time consuming. Now it was suggested getting the walls skimmed, but since that would be almost a whole house this is not economically viable at the minute.
So looking online I have seen you can get products like -
GoodHome problem walls basecoat - B&Q
Polycell 3 in 1 Matt Basecoat - Wilko
Dulux Problem Walls 3 in 1 basecoat - B&Q
My question is has anyone used any of these products and would they be the right products to use to go over the wall and even out the wall so when I paint the top coat I get one uniform finish.
Any help or reviews of the mention products would be greatly appreciated
Many Thanks
Nick
