O/S Daily Friday 7 May 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Gers - thinking of you and your mum x
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now light, clear and sun starting to shine, but forecast is for sun and showers - so we'll see. Air is nippy again.
DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was a chicken and ham pie from a local butcher that I decided to try - very nice it was but expensive. I went yesterday and got some other items too, they are in the freezer. I had a busy day yesterday but got majority achieved from my "to do" list - today I have more to do but not so much so will take it steady. I'll be heading to the SM first thing.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all
Thanks for the thread nmlc and hugs to all those in need especially Gers and her mum.
Bright ,and sunny at the moment so the washing machine can go on, I may do two loads.
If it's still sunny at 10. we'll have breakfast in the canal side cafe, after a difficult year with covid the Canal and River Trust who are his landlord have just doubled his rent! If it's not sunny we'll still buy breakfast but as a takeaway.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.16 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Another sunny but frosty start here. The bonus is that no rain is forecast!
Just after my post yesterday I could hear loud talking and car doors banging outside so, being nosy, I went to look out. There was a police car and a Maria outside! OMG nothing every happens up here so I was intrigued! They then drove off down the road and I heard no more until DD said later they were looking for a youth, looking spaced out, spotted on various CCTV cameras roaming round peoples' gardens around 6 a.m. Apparently they never found him. Most odd.
I really enjoyed my excursion to Lidl yesterday but spent far more than I intended as they had a really good selection of perennials in the garden bit outside. I got a bit carried away buying quite a few to replace my casualties over the winter months. They are now in the garage window awaiting the warmer weather. I too am a fair weather gardener!
Today the Friday Tidy awaits, a dust and vacc all round up and down.. Sparkle is molting like mad and despite me brushing her every day I can't keep up to all the clumps of cat hairs around.. I'm surprised she's not a bald cat!.
Have a good day folks if you can with ((HUGS)) for all our poorlies and poorly loved ones. GERS I hope you had a peaceful night last night and there were no more missing carers..SNOOZER hope Steve is safely home again? NELS I am missing your inspiration for meal making, I hope your hands are on the mend. Thinking of MARIE. Take care one and all xx

Morning All
Not raining at the moment but I don't think it's far away, the forecast was showing wall to wall sunshine but there's no sign of it yet.
Thinking of Gers and her DM, Nelski, Marie and Snoozer's Steve.
Friday already although yesterday felt like Friday with it being an in-service day, we usually have those attached to a weekend. I decided to go into work instead of working from home, so glad I did as I managed to get loads done without interruption. Called at the allotment on the way home - still can't plant anything outside as it's so cold. The poor little plants are bursting out of their pots!
Washing can go on when I get home, it'll have to stay indoors anyway. Also need to clean the bathrooms and wave the duster about.
Hope you all have a happy Friday, take care. XX16 -
Yes, TA he is home. He seems much better than he has for a while so we have decided to go up to Yorkshire for a few days as planned. Before that he is having his second vaccine, the doctor thought it was a good idea to take advantage of his much improved immune system (they have given him injections to strengthen it). He also has his regular treatment a week tomorrow which will suppress his immune system again. I feel like we're on a see-saw.
Anyway, I must go and start packing, I might not get on much over the next few days because we'll be with a little whirlwind in Yorkshire.16 -
Good morning, thanks for starting NMLC.It's dry and sunny here, doesn't seem quite as cold as it has been.We are having a new window fitted in our bedroom today, I'll be pleased when it's in. Something went wrong with the handle on the opening section, and we have been unable to open the window, it's been driving me mad. We have been relying on keeping the door propped open, and a fan blowing to get a bit of fresh air. It has been in for about 20 years, probably more, so I don't mind. We couldn't get a replacement for the handle, something in it dropped inside the frame DH said when he tried to fix it.I started my cards yesterday, but didn't do as much as I wanted to, I faffed as usual. I'm determined now to stop changing my mind so much and fiddling about when I go back to it.TA I like a look round L*dl, I often shop there, there's one at a shopping centre quite near us.I know what you mean about bald cats, I used to wonder that when we had cats.Hope Gers and Mum had a quiet night, and thinking of our other poorly people, take care folks.15

Morning folks.Snoozer - that's such good news. I hope that you both really enjoy your time away.Yesterday was mostly fine, only a few fraught moments in the morning but all the carers turned up. I phoned their office to get the expected times to save me just hanging about. They'll come 10.00am, 12 noon, 5.00pm and 7,30pm. At least I know I can get out in the early afternoon. DM sleeps a lot though is bright when awake.Alan came for the last piece of the bed frame which took seconds to unscrew, he then stayed with DM as I whizzed out to collect a script from the surgery. My excitement was being taken for my second vaccination, I would never have found the way to it myself. The Hydro is an enormous music venue right on the Clyde in the city. It's surrounded by motorways and one way systems. There was a very long queue which made my heart sink but one of the staff saw me hobbling, offered me help, a wheelchair and porter appeared and I was taken right past the huge queue , right round the inside to join a very small queue of others in wheelchairs. I felt a mixture of guilt and gratefulness. Vaccine was given by a very bored looking dentist and then I was wheeled back to the holding area which was staffed by a jolly porter who kept everyone to their 15 mins. Then I was wheeled back out to the entrance. All painless and smooth if a touch embarrassing! No side effects (yet?' apart from a tender area round the site. This afternoon I have my delayed dental surgery. My thoughts are with our poorlies still.Happy Friday to all.14

Right better get on I am trying to empty cupboards and clean them and compress everything down so the last day hopefully we will just have the large items. Dinner tonight anyones guess

Morning all; bright and sunny here at the moment.
My second jab yesterday went well. In fact I could have gone in early as they were whizzing through people. As I drove myself over I was asked to wait in the car for 15 mins before driving away. Fair enough, but what if I'd been taken ill in the car? Anyway, no real after effects, which is great.
Today we were going to go to buy some beer from a small independent brewery, using the last of DH's birthday vouchers, but a friend contacted us at lunchtime yesterday and invited us out for a walk this afternoon so we've postponed the beer buying. I did manage to use some other Christmas vouchers to book us seats for a local show in December and there's still a bit of money left on that voucher. We seem to have several vouchers for things that I managed to get extended so need to keep an eye on when they expire.
I took some sweet chili chicken thighs out of the freezer last night, to have today with salad, and every time I open the fridge door the smell comes out and hits me! Hope they're as tasty as they smell.
Hope everyone has a good day; thinking of Gers and her mum and fingers crossed for Snoozer's Steve remaining well.16 -
Morning all! Sunny again, phew! {just wait for a few months and I'll be complaining about the heat...] I will fiddle in the garden today, do some potting on and sow some cucumbers. I like growing squash but honestly, I rarely eat it because it's just too sweet. I have got a variety I think is the same one that I actually like but until it's grown I won't know for sure. Am currently reading a Mary Gentle book so will be lfltting in and out of that. Friends are planning a birthday bash [it'll still be six of us] in the garden in May and are going to order a cream tea. I won't be participating because my heads in the diet game so I'm going to have to think of a posh packed lunch to eat while they cream tea it up. Cue loads of failed experiments...Today is washing day and it's going out on the line after. What does everyone do about musty bedsheets? I've been putting in little blocks of cedar but it's not making much difference. When I pulled out one of the ones we use in the warmer weather, it just smelled horrible even though it had been freshly washed before putting away. Anyone tried bay leaves? And Ive booked a comedy night tomorrow with Dylan Moran for attempts at being at home sociable [ which I am much preferring lately, another lockdown bonus/misery]Glad steve is home snoozer. TA, well, I'd be surprised if you hadn't. Lidl shopping is turning a bit into Ikea shopping where you only go in for one thing and come out with a bootful as well as a combine harvester...Gers, hope the dentists isn't too painful. Hester, bloody overlords....Right,I'm offski, going to be proactive [ although a nap is probably on the cards first...] Stay safe and sane y'all.....Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi14

Morning, hugs if you need one. Gers, pleased you had a better, more settled day yesterday. Good idea asking for times of visits, gives you a little more freedom.
Did not do much yesterday, we spent a while in the garden sorting stuff out. I have placed some pots where I want the plants to go in, and I have ear marked a plant which needs to be moved. Wrong time of year really, but I am prepared to take the risk. Its having no joy where it is.
No plans for today, they are coming to put the new fascia boards on the roof, its going to look very odd they are using black.
I am also going to start hand sewing the binding down on Niblets quilt, my finger is a lot better, will put a clean plaster on it this morning. Its still a bit sore, but nothing like it was.
Fish and chips tonight, I made a bread and butter pudding last night from a stale large teacake, we will finish it tonight.
