Who is correct - landlord or me?

Hey, so I rent in Scotland and we pay rent a month in advance. My landlord notified me that my rent would be going up from the 1st of May. I pay my rent on the 28th of every month. Having paid the rent at the end of April as normal, my landlord has just been in touch to say I haven't paid the increase. The way the increase is worded is: "The rental increase shall take effect on the 1st day of May."

I told him that the rent increase doesn't start until 1st of May but he argued that as I pay a month in advance it should have been included. He went as far to say "Do we agree that you have just paid May's rent?" I replied " Yes but do we also agree that the rent increase didn't take until the 1st? If I paid rent on the 1st of the month then it the additional amount would have been paid"

He has went quiet on me ever since and other people seem to agree with him so I'm just wanting to double check who is in the right here? Thanks in advance

He is.  Though if you were paying rent for the 28th April to 27 May you should have paid 3 days on the old rate and the rest on the increased rate.
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,
Had the whole of their cash in his care.

If the landlord has given the correct notice to increase the rent then he is correct. So did he give you the correct notice?

What sort of tenancy please?  PRT or SaT? There's a different process and different notices.

HOW did landlord inform you of rent change?  Voicemail, text, email, formal notice?  If notice how was it headed?

You payment included rent from May 1st to May 27th....the fact that you made the payment in advance does not mean that payment covers a period wholly before the increase
Agree with others your payment should have included the increase from 1st May
