Replacement Garage

I have had a quote to replace a small garage, converting it into an office (with electrics fitted) for £6,000. To me, this seems fair (was expecting around £9k). I sometimes think a low quote rings more alarm bells than a high quote.
The same company have also quoted a silicon render of our house (3 bedroomed detached, house is 100m2) at £7500 plus £750 for scaffolding. This is pretty much what I was expecting which gives me some confidence in the original quote.
Also, in terms of adding value to the property, would a replacement garage and rendering a house give a good return on the investment?

It may well make it more attractive to a potential buyer and add to "curb appeal". But if you bought the place as a home, these things are secondary & minor concerns. One thing to note - If the house is not currently rendered or you are planning on removing any existing render back to brick, building regs kick in. More than 25% of the external walls being rendered, and you should be adding insulation to improve the thermal performance of the walls (but there are cop out clauses). https://www.planningportal.co.uk/info/200130/common_projects/18/external_walls/2 - Up to you if you involve Building Control to get the work signed off.If the house is not currently rendered, you may also need to apply for planning permission (see above link).
